Great success this morning in Brussels for our Roundtable on the future of the ReFuel EU Aviation Regulation: Aligning policy with the aviation industry.
The event, co-organised by the TAKE-OFF project and our partner CO2 Value Europe, was kindly opened by a keynote speech from José Ramón Bauzá, Member of the European Parliament, who gave participants a concrete overview of the recently adopted ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, which marks a significant step towards a more environmentally conscious and sustainable Europe.
After a short presentation of the TAKE-OFF project’s route by our Project Coordinator Georgiana Stan, Guillermo Felipe Rebollo de Garay and Ana Maria Lopez Chicheri Llorente from the European Commission (DG MOVE Aviation Directorate) focused their presentation on the contribution of RefuelEU and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to achieving the EU climate targets by 2030.
The roundtable saw the participation of twenty policymakers and representatives from the aviation sector, fuel producers, as well as R&D and civil society. This crucial part of the event served as a platform for an open dialogue between these key stakeholders on how to accomplish the goals of the new regulation, as well as to analyze what is expected from the EU to contribute to the effective implementation of the regulation and identify channels of cooperation to further support each other’s efforts.
We would like to thank all the speakers and the participants for joining us today and their commitments to more sustainable aviation.
The EU-funded TAKE-OFF project plans to develop a next-generation Power-to-SAF process which converts renewable hydrogen and captured CO2 to a class of hydrocarbons called light olefins, such as ethylene and propylene, which then need to be subsequently converted into the final jet fuel through further reactions.
